Learning Resources Time Tracker

Learning Resources Time Tracker

About:

My little girl was having difficulty focusing. Tasks that take children about five minutes to complete took her more then an hour. It was not that she was unable to do the task but rather she was unable to focus. I tried all sorts of reward systems and visual cues, but none of them were long term effective until I found the Learning Resources Time Tracker.

This timer is very different from others on the market for many reasons. The first most important one, it is child friendly. The timer is a nice shade of blue with two main dial strips. The first dial strip, the green one, is to set the time. The time can be set from anywhere starting at five minutes until two hours. The bottom strip, the yellow one, is for a warning.

All that has to be done is set the amount of time on the green stip. If you want to warn your child when time is almost up, set the yellow strip and you are ready to press the green start button. Once the timer is set, the done on top will glow green. If you chose to give your child a warning, it will glow yellow for the amount of time until it beeps when the time is up and the dome will switch to a red color.

Pros:
  • Child friendly
  • Nice colors
  • Easy to set
  • Child can work independently
Cons:
  • Timer can only be set at five minute increments. For example if you want to set it for 12 minutes you have to decide to add time and make it 15 or lessen the time and set it to 10.
  • Battery operated. I have nothing agains batteries but they do run out.
Suggestions:
  • If your child is having difficulty with time management have races with them to see if they can finish before time runs out. For example one of my girls was struggling with her homework. I printed out a few pages and we both got the same one. I set the timer for the appropriate amount of time and we raced to finish it before the timer ran out. It was a lot of fun and she got much better with her homework
  • Make house chores a game. Select one room and give each child a task they can finish. For example if it is setting the table, have the youngest child push in the chairs while the other child puts out the plates. Set the timer and see if they can do a group activity before the timer rings. This is a fun way to teach children the importance of working together and time management.
Age Range:
  • All
Bottom Line:

I got this for my little girl as she was having difficulty focusing and staying on track.  This timer was easy for her to understand and helped her complete a task in a much faster time period.

If your child had difficulty focusing how did you help him overcome it?
