Abortions in China

China’s One Baby Law of 1979

It is a law where each family of China is allowed only one child to raise.

The Chinese government set this law due to the rising population of China.

WHY ABORTION SHOULD BE LEGALISED IN THE WORLD???

1. If the mother is going to die
2. Incest
3. Inability to support or care for a child
4. Rape
5. The mother has AIDS or HIV or HPV or whatever and gives it to the baby
6. Its the womens body so her choice
7. To end an unwanted pregnancy.
To prevent the birth of a child with birth defects or severe medical problems

OUTCOMES OF ONE BABY POLICY AND LEGALISED ABORTIONS IN CHINA

Do People feel this law really works ???
Is it a good way to get rid of high population rates???
Do this policy give birth to other crimes???

WHAT STATISTICS SAY

20 MILLION BIRTHS/ YEAR

‘’DAILY CHINA’’REPORTS
13 MILLION ABORTIONS/YEAR

10% GENDER BASED ABORTIONS

Forced Abortions (statistics N/A)

13,000,000 Abortions/Year

CAN YOU HANDLE THE REALITY????

The government recently forced 10,000 people in southern China into sterilization, which means that those women wont be able to get pregnant.

Sex-selective Abortions

Many families want a male child instead of a women because men would carry on their family name since when a couple gets married, the female accepts her husband’s last name.
It is also because when women get married they are usually required to give money to the husband as a gift.

1.Statistics show that about 24 million Chinese men of marrying age will be unable to find a bride by the end of this decade.

2.The one-baby law has made irregular gender ratios. In some areas, there are up to 168 males for every 100 females.

3.Some authorities fear that men who are unable to find a women to marry will turn towards crime, war, prostitution, and kidnapping of women.

Post-Abortion Syndrome

Any reader interested in the subjects of alcoholism or addiction will find it worthwhile.

(History: Reviews of New Books)

A pathbreaking argument about what medicalization meant for patients as well as doctors and, more generally, American culture.

(Journal of American Culture)

Essential reading for any clinician with a historical bent. This valuable monograph traces the tension between moralism and science in the understanding of alcoholism.

(Journal of Nervous and Mental Diseases)

Tracy sets a new standard of sophistication in this lucid exposition of alcohol as a complicated cultural signifier.

(Journal of American History)

One of the signal achievements of Alcoholism in America is its thorough historicization of modern understandings of alcohol abuse.

(Reviews in American History)

Outstanding. This work combines one of the finest surveys of the alcoholism field for this period with some of the best institutional research Ive seen. Tracys command of the inebriety and alcoholism field is unrivaled.

This excellent volume reworks intellectual territory opened up in the 1970s and 1980s by members of the Alcohol Research Group.

(Katherine A. Chavigny Journal of the History of Medicine)

The most interesting aspect of the book is her analysis of the complex mix of medical and moral considerations that informed the approach to alcoholism over the period.

(Luc Berlivet Medical History)

Tells new and important histories of peoples efforts to find a cure for themselves or others and provides examples of heartbreaking failures. Her book enriches our reading of reform in this period.

(Rachel E. Bohlmann Annals of Iowa)

[Tracys] fine book illuminates a neglected and often misunderstood chapter in the history of alcohol and alcoholism.

(JAMA)

This is an excellent book... full of interesting case studies, anecdotes and historical insights. It is well worth reading by all of those who have an interest in the way in which we currently construe alcohol policy, and is a brimful of reminders that we are regularly in danger of reinventing the heel unless we carefully study the history of this ubiquitous and puzzling problem.

(E.B. Ritson Alcohol and Alcoholism)

From the Back Cover

Alcoholism in America tells the story of physicians, politicians, court officials, and families struggling to address the problem of excessive alcohol consumption at the turn of the century. Beginning with the formation of the American Association for the Cure of Inebriates in 1870 and concluding with the enactment of Prohibition in 1920, historian Sarah Tracy examines the effect of the disease concept of alcoholism on individual drinkers and their families and friends, as well as the ongoing battle between policy makers and the professional medical community for jurisdiction over alcohol problems.

Giant Iroquois Remains Uncovered in Mount Morris New York Burial Mound

Giant Iroquois Remains Uncovered in Mount Morris, New York Burial Mound

History of Livingston County, New York, 1881

History of Livingston County, New York, 1881
When Jesse Stanley came to Mount Morris in 1811, an Indian mound, nearly a hundred feet in diameter and from 8 to 10 feet high, covered the site of the late General Mills residence. The mound had long been crowned by a great tree, which had recently fallen under the ax, the stump remaining, though much weather-beaten. Deacon Stanley was told that when freshly cut it disclosed a hundred and thirty concentric circles or yearly growths. About the year 1820, the mound was removed, and, in its removal, arrowheads, a brass kettle and knives were thrown out. A number of skeletons were also disinterred. Among the bones was a human skeleton of enormous size, the jaw-bone of which was so large that Adam Holtslander placed it, mask-like, over his own chin and jaw, although he was the largest man in the settlement, and his face was in proportion to the rest of his body. Metal, in the form of rude medals, a pipe, and other articles, were picked out of the earth thrown from the excavation.
